Hi Maria, thank you for your question and interest in Model:HEI8056U. While the glass ceramic cooking surface is a durable material resistant to impact it is not unbreakable if a pan or other object is dropped on it. The Use and Care Manual will give you full care and cleaning instructions. As an example: Per the Use and Care Manual: Here are some cookware tips for keeping the cooktop scratch free: Use of pots and pans with rounded (either concave or convex) warped or dented bottoms should be avoided. Make sure the bottom of the pot or pan being used is clean and dry. Use pots and pans with thick, smooth metal bottoms. Do not slide metal pots across the cooktop. Pans may leave marks which need to be removed immediately. Do not use glass pans as they may scratch the surface.
