The biggest difference between the Bose 151 and the Bose 251 is in the woofers. The Bose 151 has 3 drivers that measure 2.5 inches each while the Bose 251 has 2 5.25 inch drivers in each speaker.
The Bose 251 speakers boast a more powerful bass.
What’s Included
The Bose 151 comes with the 2 speakers as well as a number of pieces to mount the speakers themselves. These pieces include 2 mounting brackets, 2 bracket locking screws, 2 bracket to speaker screws, 4 wood screws, 2 lock washers, 4 ¼ inches lock washers and 4 wall anchors.
The Bose 251 comes with the 2 speakers as well as mounting hardware. This hardware includes 8 screws, 8 plastic anchors, 4 knobs, 2 brackets and self-adhesive rubber feet.
Bose also recommends purchasing speaker wire but this is not included in any of the purchases.
Dimensions
The Bose 151 speakers each measure 12.5 inches x 4.5 inches x 6 inches while the Bose 251 speakers each measure 13.5 inches x 5.8 inches x 8 inches.
Both the Bose 151 and the Bose 251 come in either black or white.
The Bose 151 can be mounted both vertically and horizontally while the Bose 251 can only be mounted vertically.

Thanks for reaching out, great question. The 251 Environment speakers would not be compatible with that receiver because 350w would be too much and potentially damage your speakers. The requirements for the 251 speakers are 10w min - 200w max. We recommend that you consult Crown Amplifier for compatible speakers.

A:AnswerAs most of you know Bose usually doesn't provide that information. The receiver I'm using is pushing out 140 and if I play them in two channel stereo they hold up pretty good. You have to remember they are outdoor speakers and do not carry a ton of bass, but do put our much more than most other outdoor speakers.

A:Answerwhile they are marketed as covering a throw distance of 50-75 ft (per speaker) - they ARE wide-angle speaker. many users report, (if you have a quality receiver powering them) they've had success in areas ranging from 400ft² - 3,500ft², or a half an acre backyard. note: bose recommends the speakers are mounted at least 7 ft (2 m) apart from one another). to sum things up, like most sound system setups, it's all subjective. do you have obstacles in the way of your sound area? how loud do you want to be able to hear from the max distance away? what receiver will you be using? will you be adding an amp and/or sub to these speakers components?
the best answer is, it's all up to personal preference, but I maintain that 2 speakers are more than enough for an area of 400ft² ~ or similar.
