Hello! The noise cancelling on our QC20 headphones is designed to drown out repetitive low-mid level noises, but louder and higher pitched audio (e.g a Fire Alarm) will still be heard. Many of our users have agreed that this has a significant positive impact on aircraft in the way you have described! There is also an aware mode function for this headset. Pressing the Mode button on the side of the remote to switch to Aware mode allows you to hear some sounds around you, such as traffic noise or conversations. We would recommend trialling these out yourself at a store to ensure that you are happy with this before committing to your purchase!

You can't hear anything while on the plane until you push the button to release the noise cancelling feature and then you will hear how loud the plain really is! Crazy loud! Yes, press the noise cancellation button and you can carry on a normal conversation. in fact it seems amplified to me.
