A:AnswerThat depends on your head unit and settings - it isn't a function of the actual camera. I can turn it on with my head unit and leave it on the screen if I so desire. It does not record either way if that is a concern. You may be looking for a Dash cam setup with a rear view camera.
If you bought a camera separate from your head unit with it's own screen, it would depend on that unit.
