QuestionDoes the toner go bad if you don't print often? I very rarely print color, and I am sick of my brother inkjet ink drying up between printings. Will this address that problem?

- Answer No. Laser printer toner is a powder, and will not go bad. I chose a laser printer for this reason. If you print once a day, once a week or once a month, it doesn't matter.

- Answer I would not use photo paper that is designed for inkjets on any laser printer, including this one. Inkjet photo paper has coatings that are not designed for the heat generated by laser printers and could damage the printer.

QuestionCan I just print in black if the color drums run out?

- Answer From the Brother support site concerning the HLL3270CDW model: If your machine's cyan, magenta, or yellow toners run out, you can choose Mono in the printer driver to allow you to keep printing. You'll be able to keep printing until the black toner runs out. When the black toner runs out, you won't be able to print until you replace it. So according to Brother, yes, you can print in black without the color toner being available.

- Answer Its at least 18 months..... In my case anyway. I cleaned out my storage unit a little while back, which was NOT climate controlled but was in a favorable location as far as heat is concerned. It had been sitting in there for around 15 months and hadn't been used or plugged into a power source in at least 18 months..... Workin like a charm!!!

- Answer It only prints. It comes with starter Black/Cyan/Yellow/Magenta toner cartridges (approx. 1,000 pages each).

QuestionHow much rear or side access does L3270 require? I'd like to put the printer in a corner on the desk. Thx.

- Answer Side access is not a problem. There are no parts to open on either side. Rear access is not normally needed unless there is a paper jam that requires rear access to fix. I measured the distance the rear fold out panel extends when opened and it is under 8 inches. However, to get your hands in to remove a jam I would give it at least 10-12 inches.

- Answer The TN221 toner cartridge can be use with Brother printer and all-in-one models: HL-3140CW, HL-3170CDW, HL-3180CDW, MFC-9130CW, MFC-9330CDW and MFC-9340CDW.

- Answer I do not believe the answer from Brother is accurate. We have been using a slightly older Brother color laser printer to print labels made of vinyl. It worked fine for a long time, but now it is worn out. I was looking for a replacement when I came across this question and answer.

- Answer No. This is a printer only. However, you can download a scanner app on your phone or tablet then print directly to the Brother HL-L3270 from your phone or Tablet. There are a lot of good scanning apps out there. I downloaded Microsoft Office lens from the Google Play store. It works great for scanning to me. Any device connected to the same home network can print to your printer, no matter if it's wired or wireless. I have my printer plugged directly into my router, but you can connect the printer to your home network using wifi also. I installed the printer driver software on my main desktop, and when I tested, I was able to printer from both my laptop and my phone without having to add software to either of them, they just saw the printer and it worked.
