“Can you use only a black cartridge in the printer or does it require the color ones to be inserted as well even if you don't want to print in color?”

• While the printer will print in black only, all of the cartridges do need to be inserted for printing.

• All the ink slots need to be filled, even with an empty cartridge.

• The printer will not function unless the color ink is installed.

• As far as I know, the printer requires all cartridges to be replaced. I don't like this because I seldom use colored ink.
