Q: Questioncafe-1-7-cu-ft-convection-over-the-range-micro. Will this effectively vent and exhaust smoke and fumes when I am cooking on my oven / stove top, if installed directly above the stove or does it only exhaust smoke and fumes from within the unit itself?

• A:Answer Hello - Over-the-range microwaves cannot be used on a countertop or shelf. The underside is not flat and would not provide a stable surface. The overall width of the microwave is 29.875 inches, and from the door hinge side to the adjacent wall there should be a minimum distance of ½”. If your space allows for that, there shouldn’t be an issue with installing the microwave. Q: QuestionDoes this model come with the handle or is that a separate purchase? Also, if this microwave is installed as a non-vented exhaust, do you need to purchase a charcoal filter separately (WB06X10807)?

• A:Answer Hello. Thanks for reaching out! This model comes with the handle. It also comes with the Recirculating Charcoal Filter Kit model WB02X35607. If the unit is not vented to the outside, the air will be recirculated through a disposable charcoal filter that helps remove smoke and odors. The charcoal filter should be replaced when it is noticeably dirty or discolored usually after 6 to 12 months, depending on usage. Q: QuestionHas GE corrected the issues in the new model? Model CVM517P3MDI had continual issues, needed repaired numerous times. They finally refunded original purchase price but still need a matching microwave to mount above the range. Hoping new model is better???

Q: QuestionI have an over-the-counter Cafe Matte White microwave. The internal cavity has a calrod heating element, which I really don't like, as it's hard to clean the inside. Does the Cafe Microwave come in a model that is undercounter mountable?

• A:Answer No, over-the-range microwaves cannot be used on a counter or shelf. The underside is not flat and would not provide a stable surface. Additionally, there can be a heat issue, especially if the vent fan or surface lights were accidentally turned on. This unit offers a recirculation (Non-Vented Ductless) option and exhaust options. We recommend you review the "Installation Types" section on pg.11 of the Installation Instructions.
