Yes, you can manually feed 1 sheet into the manual input, and it works great. You have to select Multi-Purpose Tray on the MAC to get it to draw from that, rather than it automatically realizing you've put paper there, but other than that detail it works fine. It prints on the facing up surface.

I put the paper in before printing and the paper was sucked into position. I haven’t tried this, but I suspect you could change the paper tray to manual upon printing and it would wait until paper is inserted.
