We want to thank you for your interest in the product. Please be advised that all of our cameras need to be connected to WiFi in order to view from your device or computer. If your wireless signal does not reach out to your barn, D-Link does offer products that extends your WiFi range. If you have anymore questions feel free to visit www.support.dlink.com.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you are not going to add the camera to your network, then you need a camera that saves the images/video to a memory card. Many webcams have that capability, but I don't know if any outdoor cams do. You'll need to physically remove the card from the camera to view it on your computer, and most outdoor cams I've seen are mounted fairly high. If you need to recognize faces, you'll want a HD cam. Depending on how far the barns is from where your wireless router is, it might be possible for the cam to communicate with your router. If the signal is too weak, you might be able to use a wireless network extender as a relay. There are a lot of details to consider, making a recommendation difficult.

I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 5020L does NOT have recording capabilities. It is really not meant for standalone operation. It must have an ethernet or wi-fi connection to view or record. Some other DLink cameras provide for standalone mini-SD card recording, I think. But not this one.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depending on the distance from your house to the barn area, you could try and use a wifi extender to carry the signal. You could also mount a camera in the window of your house that is facing the barn if possible and you'll get a good overall view this way (again if the view is possible). Night vision on the Dropcam PRO is outstanding. I'm amazed at the distance you can clearly see outside at night with or without any outside lighting.
