Hello Tammy, The unit has an integrated pump, so it will work from under the counter, however, please note that we do not recommend to install the unit directly to the water line as the pressure may damage the motor. The unit most be connected to a regular faucet. Also, we do not recommend you to enclose the unit as it produces moisture.

I was worried about it draining as well, but I contacted Danby and they told me as long as the drain hose was less than three fee,t it would be powerful enough. We have had it like this for a year and have no problems.

The gravity of the tubing helps it drain, and putting it below sink-level would mean your dishwasher would almost always have a backflow of water in it. The instruction book specifically says to keep the dishwasher as dry as possible between uses to reduce hard-water build-up and bacterial growth.
