Great Question! The DVR will only use data when being viewed remotely. It also includes a high quality video stream and a lower quality stream for the purpose of reducing data usage at the cost of image quality. This will not affect the recordings on the DVR, only the live remote view. We do recommend a minimum upload speed of 5mb/s for the highest quality results
