Q: QuestionCan you use any wifi in your surrounding area to make it work or the intranet has to be connected to the devise ?

• A:Answer Great question Franco. To view the cameras on a smartphone through the Defender HD app, you would need to have the DVR connected to your router through a wired internet connection. The system does not offer WiFi connectivity.

• A:Answer Hi nico, great question! As stated by other sellers, the DVR is capable of audio recording however the cameras do not have microphones included. Full details on how to connect audio is available in the product's manual found on our manufacturer's website.

Q: QuestionI am thinking to install this system on a unoccupied house. Does internet access need to be available to use this system？

• A:Answer Thank you for your question Yanyan. The DVR would require internet only for smartphone viewing. To record or view the system on a connected monitor or TV, internet is not required.

Q: Questioncan cameras be placed inside of window

• A:Answer Great question Thomas. Cameras such as these that use infrared nightvision should not be placed looking out a window. This can cause the nightvision to reflect back into the camera. This will appear as a bright glare in footage, much like shining a flashlight in a mirror.

• A:Answer Thanks for a great question Dere. Dome cameras are great because of their versatility. They can be mounted on the wall or ceiling, the camera view can be re-oriented by moving the ball in the mount before tightening it fully!

Q: QuestionI notice a power button on the 8 channel 1 tb 4 camera defender for $300; can I easily shut the system when home and only have it recording when away? It's creepy to be running while home, but is it a difficult reboot process to do this? phoenixm2 too

• A:Answer Great Question! The DVR will only use data when being viewed remotely. It also includes a high quality video stream and a lower quality stream for the purpose of reducing data usage at the cost of image quality. This will not affect the recordings on the DVR, only the live remote view. We do recommend a minimum upload speed of 5mb/s for the highest quality results

The polycarbonate body cameras are weather resistant with an IP rating of IP66, allowing it do be exposed to the elements. Q: QuestionWhat happens when outside temps drop below 14 F? What type of storage is used in the DVR?

• A:Answer Hi Goose, thank you for your inquiry and interest in Defender! This unit utilizes a 1TD HDD with a SATA connection. With respect to the temperature, the cameras have only been tested to 14 F, functionality at temperatures lower than may have an impact and may cause them to stop functioning until they warm back up. Please note that the temperature rating is based off of actual air temperature, wind chill will not affect this.

• A:Answer Thank you for your interest in the HD1T8 DVR Joey. While we do supply the connections on the DVR for audio recording, there is no two way audio option. You can record audio, but not speak through it to someone at the location of the cameras. The PHOENIXM2 model is capable of this however!
