Yes and yes: memory and hard drives can be swapped out. Be forewarned, though, that as soon as you do that, you will likely void your warranty as far as Dell is concerned because you inserted have non-original equipment into their machine (no matter how benign or beneficial that upgrade may actually be) unless your buy the parts through Dell. I have swapped in memory and drives on many computers - laptops and towers - without any problems. If you like your laptop and understand the (likely small) risk, go for it. Good luck.
