It's a standard spinning 5400 rpm spindle speed hard drive for standard read/write times. But I'm sure you can upgrade it to an SSD if you open up the laptop and swap the drive, then re-install Windows on the new SSD. I have a similar laptop to this, and I upgraded mine to an SSD which made it much faster starting up and starting programs.
