I would not recommend going from 1 TB HDD to 2 TB HDD. I would recommend going to a SSD. The read / write speed is about 20x as fast as your standard HDD like the one on your 1 TB HDD. Personally, I would go with like a 500 GB SSD (Solid State Drive) and then get an external hard drive or a NAS storage device. I have a NAS storage device and I love it. I have 2 Hard Drive's inside it and it connects directly to my router using an Ethernet cable and I can access that data from any device in the world...not just on one device.
