You should be able to upgrade to 960gb but the only problem is to transfer the data and OS to the new SSD so you can replace it with the new one. You can use some software like ackron to copy or image the drive to the new SSD before replacing the original drive. The 2nd option is easier is put the new drive in and use it as extra drive to store, check to see if the desktop has a extra cable for the new drive, if not then you need to buy one.
