• I also had XP and used my old monitor it's just fine...no need to purchase a new one I'm also using my old printer...just got a new keybd and computer..

• I am using the Dell monitor that I got way back in 2005, also using the desktop speakers. They are working well.

• It all comes down to the connectors. Most new computers have some level of backwards compatibility with monitors. Without knowing exactly the configuration, I would say there is a 90% chance it should work. If you still have the manual for the display, or can find one on the Internet, bring it with you when shopping for a new PC and you can match it up. You also shouldn't have to worry about sticking with a Dell, the monitor should be pretty universal.
