I have plugged in a WD My Passport 1TB external hard drive for backing up my data. I plug it in and unplug it when I am done. I'm using a USB3.0/USB2.0 wire. There are two blue ports on the front of the tower. I'm not sure if the HDD is any different. Sorry, I am not a real computer guru, but Hope this helps someone.
