Hello, Luckily, the new USB 3.0 was designed to be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports and connectors. If the component you are using is designed for USB 2.0, it will fit and work in the USB 3.0 port, but the component can only function at USB 2.0 speeds. You would need a USB 3.0 certified component, combined with a USB 3.0 port, to work at full USB 3.0 speeds. Hope this helps, JonathanNforDell
