I had the same problem and could not find anywhere on the box that it was limited and not able to connect to an SSD. I fould another external link at Best Buy that specifically indicated support for SSD and I bought that and it works. Now I have a pretty little black Codex box with nothing to put into it. I also believe it is basic SATA, not SATA 2 or SATA 3.
