• This is a stand alone program. It appears to be similar to word, perhaps less complicated. You can Export and save documents to PDF, etc. I like having this as compared to Word because of cost. If someone happens to email you with an attachment using Word that attachment isn't gonna work, PDF will.

• I am using as stand alone also transferring files from Microsoft word program that my wife had on her computer from windows xp. So far has been a good word processor and also the excel works well for the price.
