As long as you have your phone with you it picks up the GPS from that and it will show you your route in the app.

Instead, it uses your smartphone's GPS and can track elevation, pace, and distance during your outdoor activities (not route navigation). Therefore, you are taking your phone with you. For built-in GPS, you'll have to spend a little more money for one in the Garmin family, or an Apple Watch Series 4 or 5 or Samsung Galaxy Active.
