• I'm sure the unit would operate properly on its side. However, unless it fits snugly in the window you aren't going to be able to block A/C loss to outside. The side shades provided would be difficult to manipulate & use vertically.

• no, its made to blow the moisture/water from the compressor/condensor back on motor to keep it cool and thats impossible if its turned sideways,
