NO, it is compressor driven moving refrigerant. However it is not designed to be built in and needs lots of room or an auxiliary fan and some room around the unit.

BUT, the cooling is through the actual case of the refrigerator and it needs air space and airflow to operate properly. Absent some form of added fan, and some airspace in the cabinet, it cannot be built in, and is NOT recommended as a built in unit. I posted a review today.

However, installed under the Formica countertop should not be a problem at all. Keep in mind the installation recommendations to allow space around the unit for good air circulation. Leave a 2 inch space on the back and sides of the wine cooler for adequate circulation. Kindly, Anna
