When charging in a vehicle, the battery indicator should fill up gradually. If you're charging your device by connecting it to your computer's USB, it's actually charging while in mass storage mode (or MTP mode), which is a data-transfer mode. The icon that displays when connected to a computer is an indicator of that data transfer mode, not charging. Charging on your computer takes quite a bit longer (approx. 8 hours from a dead battery) compared to charging in your vehicle (approx. 3-4 hours from a dead battery). -JPK
