Yes you can. I swam over a mile with it on and had no issues with it.

Yes shower is better than swimming. Just make sure you shake off the unit afterwards and make sure it is dry

They don't recommend it, although it's supposed to be water resistant. I personally wouldn't recommend it because it might count your shower movements as steps.
