No sure, but the Garmin Vivosmart HR definitely requires charging via USB. It takes a couple of hours. So I do it at night or at work on my computer. I do use the device to track my steps, so I avoid taking it off during the day when I'm out and about.

Please try again later.If you want a Garmin wellness device that does not require a rechargeable battery you would be interested in the vívofit series rather than the vívosmart. The vívosmart series uses more battery consumption because it receives smart phone notifications. The vívofit series does not have these features but will not require rechargeable battery. ~JH
