“How does the VivosmartHR measure accurate distance if it does not have GPS? I compared my distance on my Garmin VivosmartHR and MapMyWalk fitness app on my iPhone. The VivosmartHR will show I completed 1 mile versus MapMyWalk fitness app that shows I have completed .53 miles. I just found out the Garmin VivosmartHR does not have GPS so how does the fitness band measure distance accurately? I bought a Garmin product thinking the fitness band will have the same GPS features as the other Garmin products.”

• The vívosmart HR measures distance based on accelerometer, which looks for a natural walking movement. • It uses a generic profile for stride length but can be set up for both run and walk custom values if you get some very large variances. Bases each hit of the accelerometer as a step at that stride distance..
