A:AnswerHi Kanu- Yes, JVM3160RF2SS and JVM3160RFSS are actually the same. JVM3160RF2SS is the complete model number. When the model is manufactured, the extra number is placed on the appliance rating plate and product registration card. This number is used to identify manufacturing specific data when the appliance is made. Should service or parts be needed, this is used as an identifier for the specific appliance. We certainly appreciate your loyalty! Keep in touch- SUE@GEA
A:AnswerHi Marsha- Thanks for your loyalty! Yes, GE model JVM3160DFWW is a nice replacement choice. All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Each microwave comes with the mounting hardware (mounting bracket, screws, exhaust adapter), top and rear templates, and installation instructions needed to make installation a simple process. This makes choosing a replacement microwave easy. Please contact BestBuy for installation options/pricing. Enjoy! SUE@GEA
A:AnswerHello,
This is Lisa from GE. If you had an over the range microwave, any of our 30 inch wide over the range models will fit in the same space. There may be a slight difference in height and depth, but the width will fit. You will need to use the mounting plate that comes with the new model. Model JVM3160DFBB should work fine. Thanks for checking!
A:AnswerThanks so much for your question! The power cord comes out of the top of the unit on the right side (facing the front of the microwave) and it has approximately a 40" power cord (including the plug and base of cord). We hope this helps! Let us know if you need anything else. -Chris@GEA
A:AnswerThank you for asking a great question. The model beginning with JNM means it comes from factory as a non-vented or recirculating. the model that starts JVM means it comes from factory as vented model but you can change to recirculating when ready to install it. It is explained in the installs supplied. Hope this helps you out. Geoff@GEA
A:AnswerThe installer said there are two types of mounting brackets. In his work, he says it's a 50-50 chance the old and new will be the same (for GE). In our case, the top holes and the mounting bracket were different. But the installer did an excellent job of replacing the old/new bracket and of drilling new holes into the cabinet above. I covered old holes with duct tape, making the cabinet bottom still useable for some storage. Electric cord could use the old hole, and vent cutout was the same.
A:AnswerHi there, thank you for reaching out! Yes, this model can be installed using recirculating venting. The charcoal filter should come with your unit upon delivery. If you did not receive one, please feel free to send us an email or reach out to us on social media with your complete model and serial numbers so we can look into this for you. Directions for how to set your model to vent using recirculation can be found on pages 20-23 of your installation instructions. Stay safe. -Michael
A:AnswerHello Did - Thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear that your built-in microwave stopped working; we appreciate your loyalty and we are happy to help! The JVM3160DFWW is not a correct replacement as it is not a built-in model. It is an over-the-range microwave and it is not approved for in-cabinet installation. The closest currently available replacement built-in model is here: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-specs/PEB9159DJWW Due to different configurations and design changes involving airflow and heat issues, new microwaves are only approved for installation with current trim kits. Here are the compatible trim kits for the model listed above.

You will need to slightly modify the cabinet opening as we no longer offer a model with the same cutout dimensions. You can view the new model specifications here: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=PEB9159DJ_R2.pdf
We hope you find this information helpful! Thank you very much for checking! Olga
A:AnswerHi Marianne - Yes, JVM3160RFSS has a two-speed, 300-CFM venting system that removes smoke, steam and odors. All GE over-the-range microwave ovens are designed for adaptation for the following three types of ventilation: *Outside Exhaust (Vertical – Delivered from factory in vertical position). *Outside Exhaust (Horizontal). *Recirculating (Non-vented ductless). Thanks for choosing GE! Sue

A:AnswerI doubt anyone can answer that question on this forum. That being said, We replaced a GE with this new GE and the brackets were different and the holes didn't match up. I'm not sure why they don't make certain things standard.
A:AnswerHi AJH60605-this is Sue from GE Appliances. We are sorry to hear of this unfortunate experience. This is certainly not the evaluation we would expect to hear as we are committed to manufacturing quality products for our consumers. We would like to communicate with you directly and would like some additional information. Please contact us by email at the following link: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/contact/- Also, we suggest to check the installation. Over-the-range models must be installed 66" from the floor to the bottom of the cabinet that the microwave attaches to. This can also be measured as 30" from the cooktop to the bottom of the cabinet it attaches to. For reference, see page 8 of the Installation Instructions online: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-40675-2.pdf- Thanks for reaching out to us and for the opportunity to provide assistance.
A:AnswerIn all installations we recommend using the mounting bracket and hardware that will be packaged with the new microwave. We have compared the style of bracket used for your existing model and the one included with the new model. They are completely different.-Vikki@GEAppliances
A:AnswerPretty close. I think the 4 indicates the 4th generation of the JVM3160DFWW. The one pictured looks like the one I replaced. The latest model has a few minor cosmetic differences, and the internal dimensions are slightly different. Also, although it fits perfectly in the same location, the back wall mounting bracket and the location of the top mounting bolts and power cord are different...can't just remove the old unit and replace with the new unit without redrilling some holes.
