Q: QuestionWHAT SHOULD THE CORRECT TEMPS BE FOR THE FRIDGE AND FREEZER ? THANKS,KENNY
Asked by KENNY.
- A:Answer Hello Kenny, I am happy to help. The recommended refrigerator temperature is 37 degrees F. Temperature measurements in the fresh food and freezer compartments should never be made of the air. Air temperature fluctuates during defrost and during door openings. When taking a temperature measurement in the refrigerator section: The best way to measure temperature is to place a bulb type or candy thermometer that is capable of reading below zero temperatures directly into a container of food or liquid that has been in the refrigerator or freezer compartment for at least twenty-four (24) hours. When checked first thing in the morning the temperature reading should be between 34-42 degrees Fahrenheit in the refrigerator section and between -5 and +8 degrees Fahrenheit in the freezer section. I hope this helps. Thank you for checking with us. Lisa from GE Appliances.

Q: QuestionGarage Friendly? Is this GE frig (GES18GTHWW) designed for use in the garage, i.e., designed to maintain proper freezer and refrigerator compartment temps when the temp in the garage varies widely? Has anyone had experience with this frig in that environment?
Asked by Jim.
This question was asked about the related product: GE - 17.5 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Top-Freezer Refrigerator - White
- A:Answer Hello Jim, This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. We do not recommend installing a refrigerator where temperatures will go below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature, the unit is less efficient and will continue to lose efficiency as the outdoor temperature decreases. At 32 degrees, there is no cooling capability at all. It is not recommended that refrigerators be used in unheated locations, such as garages, porches, or unheated rooms during periods when the temperature is likely to fall below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. We do not recommend installing a refrigerator where the temperature will exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit. There is a possibility that operating the refrigerator in extremely high temperature could cause the oil to overheat and break down, thus damaging the compressor or sealed system. There is a possibility that some harm could come to the compressor or sealed system by operating the refrigerator at temperature extremes. Below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the oil could become thick and not circulate properly. Above 110 degrees Fahrenheit, the oil could overheat and break down. Refrigeration systems rely on the boiling of freon under pressure and heat. If the outside temperature is not sufficient, the freon will not boil to a vapor and no cooling will take place. Low temperatures can also fool the thermostat into thinking proper temperatures have been reached. This is true of the new CFC-free refrigerants as well. Thanks so much for checking with us. Have a good day!

Q: Question3 days old. Very noisy, twice more than my old GTS18HCM. Both 2/3 filled, needs control @ 7/8 (1/3 is recommended) to get 40/0 temp. No door leaks. Cooling overnight, runs 35 min every time @ 75 room temp & not opened for many hours. Is it a lemon?
Asked by Chris.
This question was asked about the related product: GE - 17.5 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Top-Freezer Refrigerator
- A:Answer Hi Chris- Thanks for choosing our GE Series GIE18GTHWW! The new high efficiency compressor may run faster and longer than your old refrigerator and you may hear a high-pitched hum or pulsating sound while it is operating. You may hear the fans spinning at high speeds. This happens when the refrigerator is first plugged in, when the doors are opened frequently or when a large amount of food is added to the refrigerator or freezer compartments. The fans are helping to maintain the correct temperatures. Q: QuestionHas anyone had any issues with unexplained frost build -up in several locations in the freezer?
Asked by Wally.
This question was asked about the related product: GE - 17.5 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Top-Freezer Refrigerator - White
- A:Answer Hi there, We'd be glad to provide some assistance to your concern. If the doors are opened frequently, left open, or even left slightly ajar, it would not be unusual to see a frost build-up on the shelves, packages, or walls. Try the following to resolve this issue: Remove any visible frost build-up with a dry towel. Turn the control to a warmer setting. Refer to your Owner's Manual. Check to ensure the doors close properly. Check the door gasket. If the gasket has cuts/tears/rips it needs to be replaced. Check door alignment. If the doors are uneven, refer to your Installation Instructions. Make sure the refrigerator is leveled properly. The doors should close on their own. Refer to your Installation Instructions. We hope this information is helpful. Stay in touch!

Q: QuestionCan this refrigerator be used in a garage? Is there a compatible refrigerator heater available?
Asked by Anonymous.
This question was asked about the related product: GE - 17.5 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Top-Freezer Refrigerator - White
- A:Answer Hi - Thanks for considering GE! It is recommended to not install this refrigerator where it could be running in extreme temperatures. Do not use the refrigerator in unheated locations, such as garages, porches, or unheated rooms where the temperature is likely to fall below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. After-market garage kits or heater kits should not be used. Below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the oil could become thick and not circulate properly. Above 110 degrees Fahrenheit, the oil could overheat and break down. See REFRIGERATOR INSTALLATION LOCATION AND TEMPERATURE: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=16910 - We suggest our new "garage ready" GE® 19.2 Cu. Ft. Top-Freezer Refrigerator GTS19KGNRWW. This model is tested to perform from 38°F to 110°F. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue
