Q: QuestionThe refrigerator freezes almost all of the food inside it regardless of which shelf and where inside it is placed. The temperature is at factory setting. Is this normal? I've only had this fridge for 1 1/2 months and it's been doing it from the get go.
Asked by Caligirl.
- A:Answer Hi Caligirl - Thanks for reaching out to us and for choosing GE! We are sorry to hear food is freezing in the refrigerator and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. If the refrigerator temperature sensor is blocked, it may not be able to correctly sense temperature to control cooling. The temperature sensor is located at the top of the refrigerator, on the ceiling above the top shelf. The sensor looks like a dome with slats. Move items so there is 6 inches of clearance around the sensor. Q: QuestionI understand a removable water filter is needed to be replaced every 6 months. Can you give me a price on that, and does it need to be ordered on-line, or can it be purchased locally?
Asked by AthensProspectiveBuyer.
- A:Answer That's too expensive for a filter that needs replacement perhaps every 6 months - about the same or more than it costs for the electricity it takes to run it for a year. This answer should have included the part number and price of the plug needed to replace the filter. It didn't. Get the factory plug to remove the in-fridge filter, then install an external carbon filter (about 10" long x 2") in-line with the water supply. Cost for external filters is maybe $5-$7 on Amazon for a five pack. The capacity of these external filters is greater, probably double or more, than the inside-fridge filter. You can get 1/4" push-in fittings for the water line on xBay or Xmazon. I would recommend putting a shutoff valve in front of the filter.

Q: Questionhow far out does the freezer compartment go when you pull it out? in other words, what is the measurement of the freezer depth when you pull the drawer out? thank you....
Asked by mike.
- A:Answer Initial pull is about 8 inches from the side of the refrigerator to the inside of the door. When you rig again, it opens and additional 8 1/2 inches for a total of 16 1/2 inches.

Q: QuestionHow do I make the water dispenser work? We moved into a new house with this fridge and it came with no manual.
Asked by Cres.
- A:Answer Hi Cres - Congratulations on your new home! Here's the link to the Owner's Manual for your refrigerator: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-60805-2.PDF - Be sure the water filter or bypass plug is installed. The dispenser and the icemaker will not operate without the filter or filter bypass plug (See pages 10- 11). Verify that the water line to the refrigerator is turned on. The saddle valve is used to connect the water supply line to the house plumbing and must be fully open for the refrigerator to receive water. Make sure the cradle has been held down 2-3 minutes to allow the reservoir to fill completely. Once water is dispensed, purge air from the lines by dispensing water for 5 minutes or 2 gallons. Q: QuestionIs this true Stainless Steel? Or faux Stainless Steel, thus magnets stick to this fridge.
Asked by Fertacrit.
- A:Answer Hi Fertacrit - Slate is a highly engineered, low-gloss matte metallic paint finish and will hold a magnet (not stainless steel). Slate appliances blend with today's premium kitchen materials. The rich matte appearance naturally hides fingerprints and smudges to maintain its beauty.
