  • QuestionWe are moving the refrigerator to another house. Can we lay the GE - 3.1 Cu.Ft. Compact Refrigerator on its back, so the door is facing up for a few hours, or must the refrigerator always be transported vertical?

    Asked by KMS.

    • Answer Hi KMS- When using a dolly or hand truck, always truck from the side. Possible damage could occur if trucked from the front or rear. If it has been necessary to transport the refrigerator on its side, it should stand upright for an equal amount of time as it was on its side before plugging it in. If it was on its side for more than a day, leave standing for 24 hours before running. Thanks for choosing GE! SUE@GEA

  • QuestionI'm replacing a mini frig with this model. Hoping that the freezer does not need frequent defrosting. The one we have now does not have a separate freezer, just a compartment at the top that is constantly accumulating a lot of ice.

    Asked by defrosting.

    • Answer Hi - You should defrost whenever frost on the wall of the ice tray compartment becomes 1/4” thick. The frequency will depend on usage (frequency of door openings), room temperature, etc. Thanks for considering GE! SUE@GEA

  • QuestionWhat is the height of the interior freezer space?

    Asked by dc.

    • Answer Hi, I don't have actual measurements but if you looking the picture where they show food stacked in the freezer you can see three focaccia bread boxes next to a half gallon of ice cream, which I'm sure is one of those new smaller sized half gallons, but estimating the three boxes are approximately 2 inches each that's 6 inches with another one to one and a half inch clearance on top. So I would say approximately 7 inches no idea as to the width.

  • QuestionAre there separate controls for the fridge and freezer? How long is the power cord? Can it be placed on a small stand?

    Asked by John.

    • Answer Hi John - Thanks for viewing GE! There are not separate controls. The fresh food control regulates how long the compressor runs, and in effect, how cold both compartments can become. It is equipped with a 5' power cord. Also, per the Installation Guide: Install it on a floor strong enough to support it fully loaded. • QuestionWhat are the interior measurements of the Freezer compartment AND does this model have a smooth back so that it can sit flush with the wall?

    Asked by NeedToKnow.

    • Answer Hi NeedToKnow - Compact refrigerators maintain similar temperatures as full-sized refrigerators. The temperature range in a compact refrigerator is typically between 35-42 degrees Fahrenheit in the fresh food compartment and between 5 to 7 degrees for the freezer. A compact refrigerator is intended for short term storage of foods. Frequent openings can affect the temperature in the fresh food area, and cause ice or frost to build up quicker in the freezer compartment. Also, it should not be placed against the wall. Allow 2" air clearance on top and back and 1/2" on the sides. • QuestionDoes the freezer get cold enough to keep ice cream? And I saw a description that said semi- frost free, another that said frost free. Which is it?

    Asked by Okok.

    • Answer Hi Okok- Yes, you can store ice cream. This model has a separate true-freezer compartment to store frozen foods. Also, these models are described as Manual Defrost or Partial Automatic Defrost. We use the defrost description Partial Automatic Defrost on compact models with a separate fresh food and freezer section (freezer is not inside the main compartment) to indicate the fresh food section is frost free and the freezer is manual defrost. The directions for defrosting is the same as Manual Defrost. Keep in touch! SUE@GEA

  • QuestionCan this unit be used in an rv outdoor kitchen if proper spacing is adhered to on all sides.

    Asked by Chris.

    • Answer Hi Chris- The refrigerator is not designed for outdoor use and should not be exposed to the elements. Also, do not install the refrigerator where the temperature will go below 50°F (10°C) because it will not run often enough to maintain proper temperatures or exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
