A:AnswerHi - Thanks for considering GE Model JVX5300EJES! If the hood is not vented outdoors, JXCF55 Charcoal Filter is required for recirculating installation and can be purchased online at www.geapplianceparts.com. This disposable charcoal filter helps remove smoke and odors. It is recommended that the charcoal filter
be replaced every 6-12 months or if it is noticeably dirty or discolored. Here's the link to the Use and Care Manual: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-80783-7.pdf - Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com for all your appliance needs! Sue
A:AnswerHi djts - This hood is designed for 12” cabinets and the Cabinet Spacer (JXS50SS sold separately) can be used when installing it in a 15” deep cabinet. For a 14" deep cabinet, this hood can be mounted forward without using the JXS50SS, but there will just be a 2” gap in the back. If this is done, you will want to protect the underside of the cabinet in the back. That can be as simple as a flat sheet of steel attached in that space. We hope this is helpful. Thanks for choosing GE. Keep in touch! SUEatGEA
A:AnswerHi there, this is a really good question. This vent hood is convertible, meaning that it can be installed to be externally vented to the outside or recirculating. When installed to recirculate, the unit circulates the air through a grease filter then through a charcoal filter to remove odors. The filtered air is then discharge back into the room. Thanks so much for checking and for considering GE Appliances! -Mikayla@GEA
A:AnswerHi John,
That small black spot is the sensor for the optional remote control for your vent hood. If you are looking to purchase a remote control, you can do so by calling our Parts Team at 1-877-959-8688. We hope that this helped! Thanks so much for your question.
A:AnswerThe owners manual says that it needs a charcoal filter for recirculation installation. I have only used mine a few times and it still kind of works without the filter. I wouldn’t recommend cooking anything that would let off too much steam or smoke without the filter though.
A:AnswerI've found the hoods fan to be fairly quiet. It has 3 speeds, and all but high are quite good. No rattles or other annoying sounds.
in the fan body. I put a thin foam sealer tape around the exhaust ducting where it mates to the unit so there is no metal to metal contact there to rattle.

A:AnswerHello Hawkfan55 - Thank you for reaching out about our under the cabinet hoods. We are happy to help. This model calls for the electrical access hole to be just to the right of center, when looking at the cabinets. This location is uniform for all of our under the cabinet hoods. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please let us know if you need any further help searching for a hood. - John
A:AnswerHi Sam - Thanks for viewing GE! The hood has dual halogen lighting with nightlight. Enjoy better visibility with a brightly lit cooktop and surrounding surface. We do not recommend modifications. Our products are designed, tested and manufactured to specific specifications. On new products, we offer a warranty based on these specifications. All lamps need to be GU10 compatible. View page 8 of the Owner's Manual: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-80783-4.pdf - GE® 30" ENERGY STAR Certified Under The Cabinet Hood JVX5305DJWW has Dual LED lighting. We do not recommend using the LED lamps from JVX5305 in the JVX5300 because the Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) is above the allowable limits. If you dim your light on the hood it can interfere with appliances on the same circuit. Keep in touch! Sue
A:AnswerI’ve always had recirculating which works just fine. Unless you’re already vented for outside seems that would be a big project. Also the light on this unit shines more towards the front, so sometimes it is difficult to see the control panel on my range, which sits to the back
A:AnswerHi there and thanks for your interest in this beautiful range hood. Though this unit doesn’t come with a power cord, you can purchase the optional power cord kit, JXHC1. We’re happy to answer any additional questions you may have. -Gina@GEA
A:AnswerGreetings,
Thank you so much for reaching out. This vent hood can be vented externally (ducting required) or internally (recirculating). If you want to vent internally, no duct work is required and you can just install the charcoal filters. We hope this helps. Thanks for choosing GE! Mike@GEA
