“The PEM31SFSS seems to fit my cabinet space, BUT I saw that you need 18" of depth if the power outlet is in the cabinet behind the microwave. Kind of defeats the purpose? Even if the outlet is outside the cabinet, you need 16" of depth?”

Hi - Thanks for your interest in our microwaves! We're always happy to help with your questions. The PEM31SFSS microwave uses the JX827SFSS (27") or JX830SFSS (30") trim kit for built-in installation. Based on the installation instructions, the minimum depth with receptacle outside cutout is 16" and minimum depth with receptacle inside cutout is 18".
