Make sure the water and soap are in first. Also anytime you have a heavier load than normal use the delicate cycle for the reasons you mention.

The Towels/Sheets cycle is designed for washing sheets, using a higher water level and a soak period to effectively clean these items. You can also choose the Whites cycle. Tangled, twisted or knotted clothes are usually a result of improper sorting of wash loads. To prevent clothing from knotting and twisting: Avoid mixing heavy items with light items. Avoid putting too many or too few items in the washer. Make sure you set the proper water level for the size load you are doing. Never wrap the clothes around the agitator. For best results, load items evenly and loosely around the outside of the basket, filling in towards the center on larger loads.Be sure your wash water is not too hot for the fabric. See page 16 of the Owner's Manual: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-90576.pdf - If you need more water, select the Deep Fill feature. Press the Deep Fill button once before starting the cycle to add an incremental amount of water to the wash load. Holding the Deep Fill button for 3 seconds will provide the deepest fill level possible. If you notice the load is more wet than normal at the end of the cycle, redistribute the load evenly in the wash basket and run a Drain & Spin cycle. Also, you may need check the washer leveling legs and adjust if necessary. Place a level on flat top side edges of washer. Adjust all four leveling legs until washer is level left-to-right and front-to-back. See page 22 of the Owner's Manual. We hope this is helpful. Keep in touch! SUEatGEA
