Hi Alwaysme - Starting in 2015, top-load washers feature a lid lock that engages when the washer is either load-sensing or when it is spinning above 50 RPM. The lid does not lock for the entire cycle so you can add items during the cycle. If the lid is locked, simply pause the cycle. This will allow you to open the lid. Thanks for choosing GE. Enjoy! Sue
