• A:Answer I am the same way! I always added my detergent to the water when my old machine was filling. I hated having to by a new machine. This washer has a detergent dispenser that releases the detergent while it's filling with water which I've found works well. A lot of new top load machines don't have that which means you have to put detergent on dry clothes - weird! This machine allows you to pause any time so you could add the detergent at that point. The lid only locks during the "sensing" cycle which I don't use (I like to select how much water to fill the tub) and during the spin cycle. This was the closest machine I could find with the features of the old style washers. Hope this helps.

Q: QuestionThe GE - 4.5 cu ft Top Load Washer with Water Level Control, Deep Fill, Quick Wash, and Glass Lid is VERY loud, especially during agitation. It sounds like some scifi robot walking around while agitating. Is this normal?

• A:Answer Mine is quiet too but once in awhile, it gets very loud, banging noise and it only happens when I’m doing heavy blankets. I realized it happens when it’s trying to balance the load (because of the agitator). So it’s important to load laundry evenly and with heavy beddings especially, you have to wrap the blanket around the agitator evenly. Once I did that, I don’t hear the banging noise anymore.
