A:AnswerHello Joyce. The type of cookware you use on a smooth cooktop can affect how it performs. Cast Iron cookware is not recommended. If the cookware has a burr or rough spot, it will scratch the glass surface. Additionally, it is slow to absorb heat. Once this type of cookware heats up, especially on high heat, it holds an intense amount of heat which is transferred to the cooktop. This can cause the element to shut down as a response to the temperature limiters which indicate surface temperature is too high for cooktop components to handle. Thanks for checking. Olga
A:AnswerHi Tams- The type of cookware you use on a radiant cooktop can affect how it performs. We recommend using medium or heavy-weight cookware. Flat Bottom pans are essential for good cooking performance since the bottom of the pan needs to touch the glass for the best heat transfer. Porcelain Coated Cast Iron cookware is okay as long as the cookware is covered completely with porcelain enamel. Caution is recommended when using cast iron cookware that is not completely covered with smooth porcelain enamel, as it may scratch the glass ceramic cooktop. A:AnswerHello PHbird. Thank you for asking your question about a power cord needed for your range. You need either a 3 or 4 prong range power cord. You can take your old cord to the store as that will help them. This model requires a 40 amp breaker for 240 volts. Hope this helps. Geoff@GEA
A:AnswerHi workingman - Thanks for viewing GE! It can take approximately 12 minutes
for 6 liters (approximate 25 cups) of water. Flat Bottom pans are essential for good cooking performance since the bottom of the pan needs to touch the glass for the best heat transfer. Stainless Steel is highly recommended. A sandwich clad bottom is especially good because it combines the durability and stability of stainless steel with the heat conduction and distribution of aluminum or copper. Heavy-Weight Aluminum cookware is also recommended. It conducts heat faster than other metals and cooks evenly. Aluminum residue sometimes appears as scratches on the cooktop, but these can be removed if cleaned immediately. A:AnswerHi Snow- GE ranges meet all standards set by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL). UL evaluates external temperature limitations for ranges. The front and sides of a range can vary from 152 to 212 degrees F., depending on the materials. There are currently no temperature limitations for the horizontal surface, or cooktop, of a range. The actual burner area and area directly under the cookware will be hotter than the surrounding areas. When the glass around each burner goes above 150 degrees F, the Hot Surface Light will come on to remind you that the surface is hot. After the unit is turned off, the light will remain on until the area around the burner has cooled to below 150 degrees F. This usually takes about twenty minutes. We hope this is helpful. You'll love your color choice. Slate appliances blend with today's premium kitchen materials. The rich matte appearance naturally hides fingerprints and smudges to maintain its beauty. A:AnswerHi merrycherry- GE® 30" Free-Standing Electric Convection Range JB655DKBB does not have a "hidden" bake element. The photo of visible element is correct. A website correction request will be sent to BestBuy. Thanks for considering GE! SUE@GEA
A:AnswerHi Max- To ensure the performance and safety of the range, we do not recommend reusing an existing power cord. You will need a new UL Listed 40 AMP 4-Wire Cord 4’ long or 3-Wire Cord 4’ long. You can also view the Installation Instructions online: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=31-10816-2.pdf - You may want to pair your new range with GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven JVM6175SKSS. Two-speed, 300-CFM venting system removes smoke, steam and odors. Thanks for choosing GE. Enjoy! SUE@GEA
A:AnswerHi massma- We certainly appreciate your loyalty and regret to hear of the issue with the hot indicator light. You should not expect this issue with your new range. When the glass around each burner goes above 150 degrees F, the hot surface light will come on to remind you that the surface is hot. After the unit is turned off, the light will remain on until the area around the burner has cooled to below 150 degrees F. This usually takes about twenty minutes. If the Hot light does not go off after 45 minutes to 1 hour, or the burner continues to cycle with the knob turned to OFF, disconnect power to the range at the breaker or fuse box and please contact GE Appliance Service at 1-800-432-2737 or schedule a service appointment online at http://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm?ICID=GEARsupportflyout-service - Thanks for reaching out to us.
