• A:Answer I had the same problem, until I realized that you have to 1) select Lower Oven and then 2) select the self clean option.

Q: QuestionHow do I keep the grates on the stove looking new?I just bought my stove and I already feel like the grates are getting scratched and discolored. How do I keep them looking new/good?

• A:Answer Hello Aloha girl. This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help . If burner caps are discoloring or blackening after each use, a flame adjustment may be needed. Too much air mix can cause soot and a yellow flame. Call your gas company or your gas installer to resolve. Please note that due to their continual exposure to high temperatures and abrasion by the cookware, it is normal for the grates will gradually lose their shine. Thank you for checking.

• A:Answer Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. The self-clean cycle saves time, money, and energy. The oven is cleaned by heat, at temperatures above normal cooking temperatures, which causes soil to disappear from the oven. A device in the oven, called a smoke-eliminator, further converts soil into an essentially odorless colorless vapor. A slight odor may be detected the first few times the oven is cleaned.
