- A:Answer The electrical specifications for the Opal ice maker is 120 volt, 3 amps. Q: QuestionI have a ge opal 2.0 ice maker. The people at ge have tried to help. She thinks it is the pump. Where can I get this checked it is only 2 years old. I have cleaned it regularly every month. Now it won’t do the clean it just says add water
Asked by Karo.
- A:Answer We recommend checking that the ice bin is pushed all the way in place and resetting the Ice Maker by unplugging the unit for 3 to 4 hours. If you are using a scale inhibiting filter, when it is past time to replace the filter, you may notice that your ice maker is no longer making ice. You may also notice the ADD WATER notification, even though you have water in the reservoir. If either of these things occurs, replace the scale inhibiting filter with a new filter. -- If the tips provided above do not resolve the issue, we suggest that you contact our Opal Support team for assistance. You can contact Opal Ice Maker Support, or call 1-866-907-6718, M-F 8-8 EST. Lauren@GEAppliances

Q: QuestionPlease explain how and where you fill the water side tank.
Asked by DJ26.
- A:Answer It has a spring button screw on cap that you put into the base, like a doggie watering jug/bowl. So when you take it out you turn it upright and unscrew it and put it under the faucet. The tank is about 1.75 the reservoir in the maker btw so you do this far less than fill pitchers and pour them while holding the ice bucket in the other hand.

Q: QuestionHow do you open the actual side tank (to clean it)? Do you pry that 1/8” thick plastic piece at the top off or that over 1” wide piece at the top? I don’t want to break it by pulling too hard -especially pulling on the wrong part…
Asked by Ezryder.
- A:Answer The small screw cap at the bottom doesn't clean the tank sufficiently. I've tried bleach and dish soap and vinegar. The hole is too small to clean well. I stuck a couple fingers with a paper towel on the bottom after soaking for a few hours with bleach and it still came away with black gross film. If anyone has found a way into the tank let me know. I pried off the top part but that just accessed more plastic and not the tank itself.

Q: QuestionHi I purchased this ice maker several weeks ago and the cleaning light will not stop blinking while it is still making ice? Help
Asked by Wendy.
- A:Answer That’s because you need to clean it. It will keep reminding you till you actually run it through the cleaning cycle. You could just hold the button down without cleaning it, but I don’t recommend doing that too often. It needs to be sanitized and descaled just like the manual states. Remember, you’re consuming the bacteria it’s accumulated until you clean it!

Q: QuestionDoes this nugget ice come out soft like the Chik-Fil-A and Sonic Ice or is it just small nugget ice that’s hard?
Asked by BADPRODUCT.
- A:Answer The hardness can depend on the quality (hardness) of your water. I have used bottled water, well water and filtered tap water with bottled water giving the softest ice and tap the hardest, but still pretty soft like sonic ice.

Q: QuestionHow long does the compressor run, and is it always noisy? I just purchased this ice maker and set it up today. And so far, that's all it's done after it's made ice. My refrigerator isn't this noisy or run this long. Annoying!
Asked by MJCAMP.
- A:Answer The compressor runs as long as the unit indicates that it is making ice (left most indicator light). Yes it is a tad noisier than a typical fridge. I did notice that the initial, out of the box, sound levels seemed excessive but gradually did diminish after a couple of weeks. Still it DOES make noise.

Q: QuestionDoes the machine store the ice also, like a freezer?
Asked by Eawf.
- A:Answer The ice bucket area is NOT a freezer. While well insulated, ice melt does occur (drips back into water reservoir to be reused) so there is no waste. That said, it takes hours for there to be an appreciable melting and a rate that the unit can replace in short order if left operational.
