“I have a 2 story home my thermostat now is in the second floor in that floor we only have the bed rooms we are always in the first floor do i have to put the new thermostat on the first floor ?”

You should put it on the first floor, BUT if it's already installed and you don't want to run the wire thru the house you can buy the NEST Sensor and place it downstairs and the thermostat can control the temp thru that sensor.

Not sure if this is helpful, but there are other smart thermostats that contain remote sensors. Maybe that would be a solution for you. EcoBee?

No, you don't and the E would be great for the 2nd floor since and it'll use your phone's location as whether or not to set home/away
