I have a Windows Media Center Server with movies plus live tv using tuner cards. I installed the Kodi (formerly XBMC) app on the Nexus Player and after configuring the network shares properly it can view and stream my entire movie library and pass through the surround sound to my AV receiver just fine. The Kodi app is great for this, but does take some familiarity with setting up the network shares. This works like a charm, though.
