Yes that's exactly what I had to do! The same day I went to the store, I got out of best buy within an hour with a working google pixel 5.

I just bought a unlocked Pixel 5 which i really like so far. If you have the money rather than putting a phone on a plan look at unlocked phones. With one of those if you decide to leave verizon you can still use that same phone with other carriers and not be tied into a two year contract. I hope that helps.
