  • QuestionCan I connect this to my existing Google Nest network, and have this provide internet via the Ethernet port to a device that's too far from my main hub?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Absolutely! All Google Wifi (2016 and 2020 models) and Nest Wifi devices are compatible to create a mesh system. You can simply add additional Wifi points to your existing Google Wifi mesh system. We recommend a maximum of 6 Wifi points in a single mesh setup including the primary router. • QuestionWill this router let me choose 2g and5g

    Asked by Eva.

    • Answer Google Wifi devices keep it simple by automatically choosing the band that gives you the best Wi-Fi. Based on the device capabilities, Google Wifi will attempt to select the band that will deliver the best performance for your device. Every wireless device is different and has its own rules (factoring in signal strength, congestion, etc.) to select the best band. So it’s possible that your phone connects to the 2.4 GHz band, while your laptop connects to the 5 GHz band. Ultimately, your device will decide which band it will use to connect.

  • QuestionTrying to save money on my Verizon Fios bill each month. Would 1 of these replace my Verizon router? If so, would the set up be easy? Is there anything else I could do to get rid of the costly monthly rental equipment? Thanks!

    Asked by CuriousCustomer.

    • Answer Google Wifi will work with most modems and internet service providers (ISP), including Verizon FIOS. It replaces traditional routers to provide seamless, reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home. However, it doesn´t replace your modem. You can connect Google Wifi directly to your modem with an Ethernet cable to set it up and broadcast your Wi-Fi network. If your modem is a modem/router combo, we recommend disabling the Wi-Fi functionality of the combo or putting it in Bridge mode to avoid Double NAT as it may cause connectivity issues. • QuestionWhen the speed of my wi-fi goes slower because I don’t have more data, does this machine improve the speed ?’ Is how it works?! Sorry, I don’t understand about technology…

    Asked by Paulw.

    • Answer Google Wifi provides your home with a reliable Wi-Fi mesh network and it keeps you connected wherever you are in your home. However, it will still rely on the Internet bandwidth provided by your Internet service provider. If your provider will limit your bandwidth and provide a slower connection, then Google Wifi will also be limited to the same speed limitations.

  • QuestionWhat is the speed I can get from using with spectrum modem - 200gb

    Asked by lajolla1541.

    • Answer Google Wifi is a router that broadcasts Wi-Fi to any Wi-Fi capable device. It replaces traditional router and is compatible with most Internet Service Providers (ISP). Keep in mind that internet speed and reception depend on the modem and internet service provided by your preferred internet service provider (ISP). Google Wifi can help distribute the full speed it receives from your modem. Google Wifi is capable of up to 300 Mbps @ 2.4GHz and 867 Mbps @ 5GHz. You can also check Nest Wifi routers which capable speed is up to 400 Mbps @ 2.4 GHz and 1733 Mbps @ 5 GHz. Note that these speeds will still be affected by wireless interference caused by thick walls, other wireless signals in your home, and the number of connected devices you have.

  • Questioncan you use outdoors

    Asked by rod1.

    • Answer You can use Google Wifi outdoors. However, keep in mind that Google Wifi devices are not waterproof or weatherproof. We suggest adding multiple Wifi points instead to cover the whole area or extend your Wi-Fi. As long as it is within range of your primary Google Wifi router, your Wifi points can be connected wirelessly. Ideally, one Google Wifi can cover up to 1,500 sqft. But where they are placed, the layout of your house, and physical obstructions like furniture can impact the total coverage. • QuestionDoes anyone know if you can designate which speed a device connects to? I bought a new TP link, but it "chooses" and auto connects the speed and I can't get my Simplisafe camera to connect to 2.4. It will not work on 5. Is this worth trying?

    Asked by Georgia.

    • Answer Google Wifi network uses the same name for both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Both radio bands are active simultaneously. Your devices (e.g phone, laptop, etc) that support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz will automatically use the band that will deliver the best performance based on different factors like signal strength, and guidance from the mesh Wi-Fi system.
