Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had to do that this year due to getting married. I did each separate and saved each one then did joint and saved that. It was much better for us for both Fed and State to do joint due to changes this year or we would have paid thru the nose to both. So make sure you just follow the questions and input. Only problem is you ende up doing 3 tax returns which takes more time but worth it to find out which is best for you.

By that I mean, first one will be named Joe Jones, second one as Jemima Jones, and then your final one as Joe and Jemima Jones. You will still have to go through the program three times but if you do the singular ones first, you can then easily finish your dual one and save it also. That way you will already have printable or e-fileable copies saved of both options in your files and once you decide which way you want to file, you are good to go. My suggestion though would be to delete the ones you do not want to file so you don't send the wrong ones by mistake.
