It's made of plastic. It's probably to big for a five year old it's like 2 feet in size.

I am a cosplay character impersonator, and have a Character appearanc/ Meet & Greet business. This Shield id made of a durable hard plastic which is about 3.5 pounds heavy. I would not recommend stepping on the shield while the dome is facing up ( turtle shell), but I would think it would withstand a person stepping on it while the bowl part was facing outside ( soup bowl). So far I really like this product and for a last minute buy Im going to keep it. I was debating on buying the real steel shield, but for $350 I am very happy with this product which was a fraction of the price. ( $89-$95).

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The shield is made of thick, hard, resin plastic. It's fairly hefty, so I wouldn't consider it for a 5 year old. Also, it is painted on the surface, so chances are that wouldn't hold up to the abuse a 5 year old would put it through. I hung mine on the wall for decoration, but it would be awesome for an adult at a costume event.
