It's really quite simple. Connects same as a normal non smart thermostat does with the exception of you need the common wire from the transformer to power the thermostat. A regular thermostat only needed 4 wires. If the 5th wire is not in the wall, the T5 + has an adapter that wires in at the furnace to compensate for it. I had 5 wires in the wall for mine. If you are not sure of what you are doing with it, I would recommend having an HVAC man connect it rather than burn up an expensive thermostat. The only problem I can see is if you have a heat pump or a multi stage system. Then I would definitely put the responsibility of connecting it on a pro. Otherwise a homeowner can make it work. Important: Take a picture of your thermostat wiring before you start. I have not yet installed mine as I am rehabbing and waiting until wall is painted.
