“pardon my ignorance but i need a lap top that is mobile and can generate its on wifi and or gateway so i can go on the internet will out in the field. can this unit do that?”

This laptop only has WiFi. In order to use it in the field, you would need to connect to a WiFi network somewhere or a hotspot.
