- Answer Yes, because this is a two-cartridge printer, if the color or black ink is empty, you can print with the other cartridge in Single Cartridge mode.

- Answer Yes, the two printers are extremely similar. The layout of the buttons is slightly different, as is the front door for changing cartridges. There aren't performance differences.

Questionneed this printer to work wired, not wirelessly because college dorm doesn't allow you to have wireless anything in yrou dorm room. can this be use wirelessly and then, can you do the instant ink program without having it connected wirelessly?

- Answer The printer can be used wired {Note: you will need to purchase your own cable to connect to your computer, laptop, tablet...etc..!} - NOT INCLUDED! I used my old one from my previous printer. {10 yr. old Canon} Unfortunately, It must be connected wirelessly to use the Insta Ink - since this is how they know when to send more ink depending on your printer usage.

- Answer It says they are and when I installed them they look like regular cartridges but I bought an extra cartridge to have on hand. So far tho it is lasting.

QuestionDoes this printer work with just black ink or do you have to refill both cartridges for it to work? For example, if the color ink runs out but the black ink still has ink, will it still print if in black and white mode?

- Answer This printer is two cartridge printer, which means it can print in single cartridge mode. HP's exclusive feature, Single Cartridge Mode, allows you to print with only one cartridge -- just don't leave the empty one in. So you never have to buy color if you don't want to. I would just advise to set up with both cartridges in the box first. Then, you can use single cartridge mode.

- Answer That will depend on how much you print, and how much printing is on the page. If you print very infrequently, ink will be used to clean the printheads and the cartridges can have issues depending on the environment. If you print regularly and most often print documents with few photos in between, the cartridge will last.
