I'll be doing this shortly. Just picked up a Dell desktop with a slim DVD and I'll see how it fits in the HP. Plan to order a BluRay unit. The cabling for the optical drive is in place already1 (And a 3.5" HDD drive slot is wired as well.) Quite a pleasant surprise to see the cables in place. (Tho they may be tucked under a cable routing clip, so you might have to eyeball around a bit.) There are a lot of slimline drives out there. Good luck!

Please try again later.While it does come with a "Cut out" in the face plate I have not taken mine apart to look to see if it has the mountings for an internal optical drive. However it does have a number of USB ports and external optical drives are available. I understand there is an SATA cable and power connector inside for adding another SSD or Hard drive.
